‘Somewhere’ at Imaginary Foundation

I’ve always been very impressed by the vivid colors and absurd/surreal imagery used by Nick over at Imaginary Foundation. Their new releases are no exceptions. This time around, it’s Somewhere that stands out to me most. I’m a really big fan of what they’ve been doing with clouds lately. First they had their Cloud Hoodie (which may just be the best hoodie ever… too bad I’ll probably never get to see one in person), and now this. At least the t-shirt is within my budget.

The use of space on this shirt is pretty terrific. It’s a little hard to tell in the picture of the full shirt, but the man is walking through a hall that fades into clouds that give way to the clear blue sky of the shirt itself. The effect is much clearer in the detail picture below.

Because the print is wide enough to span the whole shirt (on a medium or a small, at least), the effect isn’t interrupted by abrupt edges when viewed from the front. And thanks to arms, I would imagine it still looks pretty good at an angle, too.

(That’s me!)

Even though the print is pretty large, there isn’t an issue with the shirt losing flexibility. The black ink that they use to print the walking man has a soft hand and doesn’t affect how the shirt drapes at all. The rest of the ink has a medium hand and feels kind of inky (not exactly sticky, but stickier than cotton!), but it only has a minor impact on the flexibility and drape of the fabric.

Expensiveness: $30

P.S. Should I keep writing about how the print affects the flexibility and drape of the shirt itself, or am I the only one who cares?

P.P.S. I’m not going to stop mentioning the hand (read: softness) of the prints, because it’s something that is important to me! The ultimate is “no hand,” which is what we’ve achieved with most of our prints at Fantastic Bonanza.
