This time around, my favorites at Monsieur T. are all the work of Ryan Berkley, whom I happened to meet at Reed College (where I currently attend) because I was wearing one of his designs, Berserk.
I think both of these shirts are really great. What would make this series perfect would be the addition of a shirt for Hades, god of the underworld. After Zeus led the gods in overthrowing their father’, Cronus’s, rule, Zeus was alotted rule of the sky and the heavens, Poseidon the sea, and Hades the underworld. Here, Poseidon and Zeus are in their element: Poseidon wields his signature weapon, the trident, acompanied by an armada of flying fish. Zeus brandishes a lightning bolt forged by Hephaestus atop a cloud surrounded by eagles, his personal messengers.
One of my perennial Monsieur T. favorites, Ryan Berkley’s Berserk (above right), is getting reprinted this season. It will be available as a men’s tee and also as a women’s tank top. The glow-in-the-dark inks are a nice touch to this turtle ravaging across the bridges of Portland, OR. I think Skull & Baguette is kind of funny, too.
