Battle Royale is a pretty… odd movie. At least, it was for me. The premise is basically that a bunch of Japanese schoolchildren are left on an island and they have to kill each other. It is incredibley violent, and that usually is not my kind of thing. Honestly, some parts of it made me physically ill. I kind of have that reaction to graphic violence, I guess. Nevertheless, there is something about it that continues to haunt the minds of those who view it. I’m not sure why that is. But it has spawned its fair share of t-shirts, and I’d be happy to point you in the direction of four of them. Mind you, I don’t think I’d wear any of these shirts, especially not the ones with blood on them. Blood, guns, drippy emo hearts… all are taboo on my tees. Oh, but don’t worry: there will be NO blood and NO violence until after the jump.

This is one of the simplest Battle Royale t-shirts that I’ve found; it’s just the emblem with the text “Battle Royale BR Survival Program” printed in red ink on the tee. Battle Royale purists will note that the emblem should be tilted… but I couldn’t find a shirt like that. Their site is sort of weird, so they have separate pages for the small, medium, large, x-large, and xx-large t-shirts. Expensiveness: £10.64
WARNING: some blood ahead; it’s not all that much and it’s fairly stylized. It’s certainly no Kill Bill: Volume 1.
This t-shirt from Uzumaki Design, also available in black, is printed on American Apparel. What makes these special is that, in addition to the screenprinted Battle Royale emblem, the “blood” is hand-splattered, so each shirt is unique. Expensiveness: $19.99

Battle Royale Boy from Airside

Battle Royale Girl from Airside
Finally, some graphical (and graphic…) t-shirts. Both were designed by Henki Leung for Airside and printed on American Apparel. Unless you wear a guys’ medium, Battle Royale Girl, featuring the distinctive death of Izumi Kanai, is in very short supply (and sold out for guys’ sizes large and above). The stock of Battle Royale Boy, on the other hand, is relatively plentiful. These two visceral images, while ranking among the most emblematic and well-known of the deaths in Battle Royale, are pretty pithy synecdoche for the entire movie. Expensiveness: £24.99
