How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Threadless

This is the tale of my disenchantment with Threadless and my first purchase from them (on February 5th, 2007) in over a year. I had been quite a loyal fan for a long while. I enjoyed the clever yet artsy designs that they continued to release. But a sense of unease was gradually building as I accrued mountains of “I <3 Threadless” stickers. It’s hard to say what exactly the tipping point was. It must have had something to do with the intersection of four critical factors.

I <3 Threadless Sticker

1) First, there was a long stretch of time during which not a single Threadless design appealed to me. As the Threadless email newsletter disappointed me week after week, my interest began to fade. I began to look forward to checking my email on Monday less and less, but still did I check. Very few were the fruits of my labors.

I Like Getting Food on My T-Shirts

2K’s goal is “to gain recognition by the people through [their] vision of presenting artistic uniquities by artists [they] have met and become fond of.” Sounds pretty fine and dandy to me! Each order comes with a t-shirt man keychain, which is pretty nifty. It seems to be made out of some pretty sturdy rubber-like material and looks like this:

T-shirt Man Keychain!

Of all the 86 artists whose t-shirt art they print, I am particularly fond of the work of Marc Atlan (see all his t-shirts at 2K here). Even more specifically, I love his fast food series. They have this great “painted” style to them. Here are my top 5 favorites:

Fantastic Bonanza Free T-Shirt Contest 3: The Reckoning

That’s right, folks! February, that runt of the months, has sped right on by, and the 7th of March is upon us. And you know what that means.

A new free t-shirt contest!

Hooray.

But first, let’s announce the winners from February’s contest.

It was a close one, and although there were fewer entries this time around, they were all excellent. For example, I’m personally a sucker for VH1 and all of its ridiculous pop culture trashiness (or amazingness?), so Amber’s “Celebreality Show” suggestion struck a chord with me. Jess’s death-defying roller coaster ride and Glenn’s concert-laden, drag-racing, mini-golfing, lightsaber-battling, virtual reality Chuckee Cheese rave were also both very well-recieved.

But There Can Only Be One, and so, after many hours of heated battle, one response finally emerged victorious: rAnnie’s vision of the most frenetic all-you-can-eat sushi bar this side of the Mississippi:

Fantastic Bonanza sounds like some crazyass all-you-can-eat sushi place

FANU-TASHTICU BO-NA-ZARU!!! HAJIME!!!

with iron-chef-like commentators rushing around the kitchen while fireworks are going off against the brilliant red sunset and sumo are fighting ninja
and that happens forever.

Congratulations to rAnnie! And now, it’s time for this Month’s prompt. It’s a little long, but bear with us.

Fantastic Bonanza is a worldwide competition amongst the world’s leading athletes. It is a long and arduous journey laced with peril, intrigue, suspense, and giant, soggy lizards. Fantastic Bonanza traverses the harshest climates known to man and giant tube worms alike. It’s scary, guys. You might think it odd to freely partake in such a competition. That is because you have not yet heard of the prize bestowed upon the winner of this event. Yes, those spectacular spoils awarded to the person that proves their worth as greater than any other’s.

So tell us: what is the Ultimate Prize In The Universe presented to the winner of Fantastic Bonanza?

Just leave your response as a comment to this blog post, and make sure to fill out the “email” field, so we can contact you if you win! As always, the prize for the entry that we think is the best is a free Fantastic Bonanza t-shirt of your choice. Ready… GO!

Low-Cost Berry Thievery

You can grab The Berry Thieves from Cotton Werks for only $10! It’s normally $18, so this is a pretty sweet deal. But you have to act fast, since the sale is ending at midnight on March 7th (that’s today).

The Berry Thieves

So if you want a shirt with a bird flying through the air with a basket of berries and two kinda freaky-lookin’ kids hanging off from some threads or string or rope or something that the bird is holding in its mouth, then you should probably get on top of this!

Personally, I’m holding out for Low Sodium—by pre-ordering it, I saved $3!

Rangga over at Tshirt Island unearthed this movie presented by Jeffrey and Jake of Threadless and skinnyCorp at CommunityNext. It’s pretty sweet!

Two (2) New Tees at SEIBEI!

That’s right, David Murray is at it again. This time around, he’s released two more tees (both printed on American Apparel). The first, MASH, looks like this:

MASH - Seibei

If you’re either a big t-shirt nerd or a pop culture nerd (or both), you’ll know that this is playing off of Experimental Jetset’s John & Paul & Ringo & George shirt. I knew this because I’m a big t-shirt nerd… Regardless, I think it’s funny.

The second, Thirsty for Blood, Hungry for Tacos, looks like this:
