Brendan Monroe Makes Nice Art (and T-Shirts)

I really like the work of Brendan Monroe. I found out about him through Little Paper Planes, and I’ve never looked back since. Thankfully for me (because I really like his art, but I can’t afford any of it!), and for others like myself, he has printed some t-shirts over the years, a few of which I’ve managed to acquire (and many of which are now sold out).

He has a couple of shirts that I don’t own, but I’m just going to go over my three favorites (in no particular order), which I do own!

1) Sour Stack

Sour Stack - Brendan Monroe

Brendan has been doing quite a few things with these characters. He’s printed three mini books of their adventures, the third of which can be purchased in his store. They are a pretty dark offspring of nature. They especially don’t like cats… which they sometimes eat. Anyway, you can get this shirts either at Little Paper Planes for $24 if you wear a girl’s medium, or from Android 8 for $15 if you wear a guy’s small/medium/large or a girl’s medium or large. They’re printed on American Apparel stock.

2) Rooted

Rooted - Brendan Monroe

I really like Rooted. Like the Sours, the Claudes featured in Rooted are a hybrid of nature and human (one of Brendan’s favorite themes). The two-sided print is pretty cool, too! It’s currently available in very limited sizes from Little Paper Planes: guy’s small and girl’s medium for $24. Again, printed on American Apparel.

3) Deer

Deer - Brendan Monroe

Sadly, Deer is out of stock everywhere I can find it. I actually got mine from the Uno online store, but it hasn’t re-opened since they redesigned their site. The bamboo growing around and also out of the deer is a great image. They’re currently sold out at Android 8. The print is off-center on the bottom right of and American Apparel tee.

If you’re eager for more Brendan Monroe t-shirts, Little Paper Planes has another one available, Spark Catcher, for $24 in girl’s medium (girl’s large available at Giant Robot) and guy’s small/large/x-large (medium and large available at Giant Robot). Reminiscent of Sour Stack and Rooted is Bandits, available from Seed in men’s sizes medium through x-large, American Apparel, for $20. Seed also carries Brendan’s Couple Growing Seeds in women’s medium through x-large, American Apparel, for $20.

This is going to require a lot of links to cover the various places where you can get shirts with Brendan Monroe’s art on them…

  1. 1 New Orleans T-Shirts

Great designs, I really like the neutral/earthy colors used on these tees.
