Seven Things You Probably Never Wanted to Know about Me

So I was tagged by Rangga for this game of blog tag. If you want to know some stuff about me (I promise to try to make it interesting!), read on. Otherwise, don’t… but if you don’t I’ll know it, and I’ll cry myself to sleep.

In no particular order:

1. The first time I fenced was (if I recall correctly) the summer before fifth grade. Since then, I’ve been fencing on and off, which brings me up to a total of 10 years. Wow. It’s kind of pathetic, considering how much better I should be for having fenced that long… I console myself by telling myself I have other priorities, which is true. If you want to see me fencing (and kicking ass), there’s a movie of me fencing in a tournament that I organized at Reed College on YouTube. Fencing keeps me sane and more fit than I otherwise would be, and I’ve met some great friends through it!

2. I’m currently playing one videogame, Bully. I was hoping it would be more counter-hegemonic than I am finding it so far (at half way through), but it relies so heavily on stereotypes, without playing with those stereotypes in interesting ways, that it really isn’t. I’m hoping for an interesting plot twist in the second half…

3. One time in Kindergarten, when the teacher was teaching us about addition, she explained three things. I said ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah’ in an attempt to register my understanding of all three things, but she interpreted it as sass. I felt bad :(

4. I only have two kinds of everyday socks, and they’re pretty similar: one style is white, one black, and they’re both low-cut Goldtoes. I don’t have to match socks before putting them away, and I always know whether the socks I’m wearing match (sadly, sometimes they don’t…).

5. My long-standing favorite t-shirt is My Octopi from SquidFire.

6. Okay, this isn’t actually about me, but it is about another Joe. Specifically, Joe Trohman, who you might know as the lead guitarist for Fall Out Boy (I don’t really like their music). But anyway, there’s this great picture of him from when he was in high school, which Greg’s brother found in his yearbook (we all went to the same high school). So thank you Greg, and thank you Greg’s brother.

Q: Who is the most double-jointed? A: Joe Trohman

7. I’ve been interested in studying Anthropology ever since my senior year of high school, when I was taking the Best Class of High School Ever: Integrated Principles of History and Science. Yes, it’s a mouthful, and it’s probably not at all what you’re imagining it to be like… but it was an amazing, life-altering experience for me and made me certain that whatever I choose to do with my life, I want it to benefit other people. So thank you once again Mr. Harper and Mr. Kajfez. Oh, and guess what? Now I am studying anthropology, and I’m thoroughly enjoying both the material and the magnificent professors I’ve been so fortunate to have had so far (i.e. Anne Lorimer, who is amazing).

Well, that’s all for me. Now it’s time for me to tag five others! (I’m lowering it to five because I think seven is too much.) Here they are:

Derek from Enclothe, David from SEIBEI, Dave from Resist Today, and finally Greg and John from right here.

These are the rules, for those of you who I just tagged:

Each blogger lists 7 little-known facts about themselves. People who are tagged need to then report this on their own blog with their 7 things as well as these rules. They then need to tag 5 others and list their names on their blog. They are also asked to leave a comment for each of the tagged, letting them know they have been tagged and to read the blog.
