Howdy, all. We’ve recently heard word that the charming chaps at Beautiful Decay have unleashed an onslaught of summer styles upon the unsuspecting populace. That’s right: Beautiful/Decay’s summer lineup has arrived in the nick of time, bringing five new shirts to the electronic doorsteps of t-shirt-dom’s voracious consumers.

B/D Or Die by Sentimental Soy Cheese: $29.95
First on the list is a boisterous offering from the dynamic duo collectively known as Sentimental Soy Cheese. Reportedly inspired by EA’s legendary Skate or Die! — a bodacious game with which I am sadly unfamiliar — this tee handily captures the manic eccentricities of popular design in the late 80s.

Melting Hearts by ToothJuice: $29.95
Melting Hearts follows closely, coming from the duochromatic mind of ToothJuice (known as Josh Clancy among mere mortals). Mr. Clancy relates a fanciful warping of the human body’s more recognizable intricacies with his tee — I’m a fan of the incontinent udder, myself. With its syrupy lettering and a small compliment of bubbles, the image carries an endearing effervescence; I can’t help but think of peoples’ ambivalent attitudes towards Coca-Cola and similar soft drinks.

Bulbous Wing by Evgeny Kiselev: $29.95
Evgeny Kiselev delivers a phantasmagoric vision from across the Bering Strait. According to his biography at Beautiful/Decay, Mr. Kiselev favors “psychedelic nature, internal structure and endless transformations” in his works. Lacking an understanding of the more abstract nooks of the artistic domain, I can only comment on the shirt’s eerie skeletal visage and its apparent nonrelation to wings, let alone bulbous ones. As is usually the case, I’m probably missing something, though the design carries itself well regardless of my artistic illiteracy.

Mushroom Cloud by Matt Yerman: $29.95
Oddly, Mr. Yerman’s design strongly and persistently reminds me of ToothJuice’s — perhaps the two are in cahoots. Nuclear explosion fanatics will likely find this shirt rather disappointing, while horticulturalists and nephologists may find some solidarity in the surreal depiction of mushrooms that nest in collections of airborne water vapor.

Barf 3D by James Callahan: $29.95
Capping this quintet is James Callahan with his audacious foray into Dimension Three. The image certainly lives up to its title, prompting me to wonder what could provoke such an inordinate epidemic of vomiting among this peculiar population. I am curious to see this tee in the full glory of three dimensions, as the image looks immensely cluttered when constrained by a paltry two. Still, it’s difficult to argue with something as awesome as a skull donning 3D glasses in the wake of a mighty barfing army.
As always, be sure to check out Beautiful/Decay’s shop page to examine these cottony morsels to your own satisfaction.
