Sharpshirter Hits the Mark

Oy—what with all the work of redesigning a site and launching a new line of tees, I’ve hardly had any time to blog! That’s a shame, too, since I’ve been meaning to talk a bit about Sharpshirter for over a week now.

Here’s my personal favorite from their store:

Bring It!
Bring It! at Sharpshirter

Not only is the bear vs. penguin matchup simply ingenious, but I really like the feel of this design. The bold motion lines, background panels, and cutout style remind me of a Japanese manga. It’s something you don’t normally see on a t-shirt, and that’s refreshing.

Also, the penguin looks like a complete badass, Beatrix Kiddo-style. Since penguins are almost universally portrayed as friendly, cuddly, silly birdies, it’s nice to see one ready to mess something up. And if that something is a grizzly bear, well, more power to it.

New Imaginary Foundation T-Shirts!

And boy are they beautiful (as usual)! Somehow, it seems fitting that I’m listening to Animal Collective while I’m writing about these new t-shirts from Imaginary Foundation… but consider these two of my favorites for yourself:

Parallel Universe - Nick Philip - Imaginary Foundation
Parallel Universe NEW! at Imaginary Foundation (also available for women)

I love the giant pointing hand. I don’t know why, I just do. I feel the same way about the paint splatters. And for some reason, they fuse together into a striking image of deixis (pronounced, as my anthropology professor explained it, ‘like your lesbian little sister’). Actually, that’s probably why I like it so much: deixis is such a ubiquitous yet phenomenon, and so critical to our thought and interaction, that such a huge example of it is powerful.

Pop Pencil - Nick Philip - Imaginary Foundation
Pop Pencil NEW! at Imaginary Foundation (also available for women)

The pencil, perhaps even more than the blank canvas, is brimming with creative potential, but only in so far as it is manipulated by a creative mind. Fortunately Nick Philip (The Imaginary Foundation’s artist-in-residence) is one such creative, and the joy and beauty of such a creativity is embodied in this t-shirt design.

Patterns! 2: Argyle Patterns on Angry Sweatshirts

I like patterns on t-shirts, which is part of the reason I like Angry. In addition to their quite nice patterned banana and striped apple t-shirt designs, they’ve really taken patterned design elements to the next level with a couple of sweatshirts.

Angyle Bunny - Angry
Angyle Bunny (also available in red) at Angry (€75)

This bunny is a most excellent combination of creepy and cute. I think the creepiness comes in because of all the jagged edges (which are not normally associated with cute fuzzy bunnies), since the bunny face is made entirely of argyle! Which is really awesome, not only because argyle is pretty awesome, but because nothing on this sweatshirt is printed: the argyle pattern is entirely woven into the fabric itself. But if bunnies aren’t your thing (or if you’re not a girl, since these are technically girls’ sweatshirts), maybe skulls will sate your appetite for meta pattern use:

Angyle Skull Sweatshirt - Angry (red)
Angyle Skull (also available in gray) at Angry (€75)

That is one fine looking skull. Big, bold, and in-your-face with its argyleiness (not a word… until now!).

P.S. If you’re into long sleeves, you should definitely check out Hide Your Arms, because Andy blogs about things with long sleeves all the time, and he’s really good at it.

Technical Difficulties

We had some troubles with the Wordpress upgrade, so I reverted everything to the way it was before the upgrade.

So the good news is that I believe the site works fine. The bad news is that if you posted a comment on the site either yesterday or today, it disappeared into the shimmering aether of Internet, floating amidst a translucent sea of forgotten words, images, numbers, letters, zeroes, and ones.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Four New Shirts And A New Website At Fantastic Bonanza!

Holy crap! It’s finally happened! I do not know if I can contain myself.

Not only do we have four new shirts here at Fantastic Bonanza, but we also have a brand new website with which to peddle them! Greg designed and coded the bulk of it because he is an Internet Superstar.

There’s a few more new things you should know about, but I’ll save that for a little later. Right now, let’s just move on to the exciting part:

Octotree at Fantastic Bonanza: $24.00

Our regular readers will remember this shirt from our totally ground-breaking series, The Birth Of A T-Shirt. Since we’ve already discussed this one at length, I might as well leave it at that!

avemizar.gif
AVE Mizar at Fantastic Bonanza: $24.00

Inspired by and featuring the ill-fated flying contraption of 1973, this shirt depicts just about the most excellent spacefaring vehicle imaginable — especially useful if you decide to make a quick swing by Phobos on your way to Kankakee.

conezor.gif
Conezor Attacks! at Fantastic Bonanza: $24.00

Conezor Attacks! actually found its genesis in a rousing game of Eat Poop You Cat a few years ago. We tried to draft a design for this idea last year, but most of the precursors to this final iteration were … pretty terrible. I’d be willing to show ‘em off in the future if people were interested, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

monstermash.gif
Monster Mash at Fantastic Bonanza: $24:00

I don’t quite remember how this one got started, but it does have at least a tenuous link with Pickett’s famous novelty song. There was a long discussion about what, exactly, should emerge from the Monster Masher (even though this would technically be a Monster Grinder). One of the earlier ideas was to have a hideous amalgamation of several different monsters.

Well, that’s four, count ‘em, four new designs, baby! We decided to print this batch using Continental Clothing t-shirts, if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

By the by, if you’re a fan of heterogeneous items collated into a convenient parcel, be sure to check out our new bundle packages as well! You can find ‘em here and here. And don’t forget: both come with free shipping!

Actually, if you live in the U.S., you also qualify for free shipping if you purchase 3 or more shirts! International customers and domestic orders shipped via Priority Mail qualify if you purchase 4 or more!

Anyhow, give the new website and new designs a look-see. They are, for lack of a better word, fantastic.
